For the first time in a long time we had snow in the forecast. There was lots of discussion about the weather in the days prior. Would we get any? How much would we get? These questions ca,e up a lot and the answers were all over the place. The prediction was we may get none, we may get 8 inches, or maybe anywhere in between. The hospital are the decision to cancel surgeries for Wednesday and Thursday with a decision about Friday to be made later in the week.

Tuesday evening the precipitation began to fall. It started with sleet and eventually turned to snow. It was very exciting to think about what we could possibly wake up to. I was excited to let the dogs play in it.

We got up early on Wednesday to see what Mother Nature left for us. It wasn’t as much as I had hoped for. But I was happy for what we got. Our plan was to ride the golf cart around and maybe take the dogs to the dog park to let them run around in the snow, but we couldn’t get the golf cart to work. Plan B was to ride our bikes around but Scott found it to be pretty slippery and kinda hard. So…we went with plan C which was walking. We broke out some of our winter gear from our travels and decided to walk to the waterfront and around town. I wanted to be able to see the town before everyone got out and about. It was very pretty, very quiet, and very cold. After making our way back home, we let the dogs out into the yard to see how they liked the snow.

When we got home, we let the dogs out into the snow. They seemed very excited to play in the white yard. It was a little more ice than snow, so I was nervous that they would slip and get hurt. They seemed to be just fine. That evening Scott and I made a fire in the front yard fire pit and sat back and watched the drivers at our intersection. It was entertaining to see how people reacted to the conditions.

Friday morning I had to go back to work but with a late start. Some of the roads were still pretty icy, including the ones by my house. I don’t really have a lot of experience riding my bike in the snow/ice but I wasn’t going to let that stop me today. In true Carolynn fashion, I rode in my flip flops. Scott rode in with me since he didn’t school. We had to pull over once to allow an ambulance to get by us.
