We left Oklahoma to make our way to Estes Park, Colorado for one of my cousin’s weddings.  We were able to hang out with my Nana, aunts, uncles, and cousins from Illinois.  It’s always good to see everyone.

We went shopping along a river walk.  Nana was sure that Melissa was going to push her in the river.

The wedding venue was beautiful.  It was an outdoor venue so thankfully the weather was amazing.  On the way to the parking lot we were able to see some elk.

The reception was held at a beautiful steakhouse in town.  I always have fun partying with my family.

Saturday, we decided to go into the Rocky Mountain National Park to do an easy, short hike to a waterfall.  While we were getting ready to leave, we happened to hear on the news that it was actually free National Park day so they expected the park to be at capacity by 10am.  We decided to attempt to go anyways.  We made it about 5 miles from our trailhead when the rangers made us turn around because parking was full.  It was time for plan B.  We decided to drive one of the scenic roads through the park.  At the highest point, the elevation of the road would be 12,000+ feet.  We stopped a few times for overlooks.  Everything was so beautiful.

At one point we got out and walked up a path that went through a Tundra.  It was very cold, super windy, and hard to breathe.  We were not prepared for that climate.  Melissa, Neil, and me were the only ones to walk to the top.  We were at 12,250+ feet and frozen.

We decided to head back down and go grab some lunch.  After lunch, we decided to give the short hike another try.  The news said after 3 would be a better time to go.  They were wrong!  We couldn’t even get to the point we did in the morning.  So, once again we went with plan B.  We found another relatively short hike.  The air wasn’t really moving in the afternoon and it was really smoky.

We decided to have a relaxing evening at home playing cards and just hanging out.

In the morning, we all said see you later.  Scott and I are making our way to South Dakota to go see Mount Rushmore.
