Big Four Ice Caves

Today we headed into the Mt. Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest to hike to the ice caves.  The path to the caves is a relatively easy one.  The path/boardwalk is very well maintained.  It was a cool 46 degrees when we got there.  Luckily we had brought our jackets because we were both wearing shorts.  There are plenty of signs warning people not to go into the caves because people have died and been injured when they collapse.  When we made it to the cave, as bad as I wanted to go in, I resisted.

There were lots of trees laying down due to avalanches.

Right before we made it to the caves, we noticed how frosty everything was.

The caves.

Even in the cold, there were pops of color still around.

We walked around to another set of ice caves.  These seemed to be melting a lot more than the main cave.

These were some neat trees on the walk out.

I’d like to go back when there is more snow!
