Fort Stevens

Today we visited Fort Stevens State Park and explored a little bit.  At the tip of the park we were able to see where the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River meet.  At another part of the park, we saw the remnants of a ship wreck that washed ashore.  While checking out the ship, Scott spotted some whales!  They were a little ways away, but you could see their blow spouts and parts of their backs and tails while they swam north. Pretty exciting all the same!

A neat piece of driftwood on the beach of the Columbia River.

The Columbia River.  The land across the river is Washington.

Pacific Ocean and the rock wall that separates it from the Columbia River.

We walked from the parking lot across this grassy area to get to the rock wall.  On the way out, we had to hop over a small stream.  When we decided to head back, we noticed that the tide was coming in because the small stream was not so small and instead of hopping across, we had to wade through it!

Some more cool driftwood.
