Petrified Forest National Park
After visiting the Grand Canyon, we were going to make our way to Oklahoma City to visit one of Scott’s sisters. On the way, we decided to stop at the Petrified forest and Painted Forest in Arizona. It was a really neat park. The main road went right through the park with lots of pullouts for viewpoints or short walks.
On the way to the park we saw lots of sand tornados! One was crossing the road in front of us and since it covered both lanes we had to drive through it. It was a lot more powerful than I thought it would be. Scott said it felt very weird driving through it.
This “bridge” was a long petrified log. They had to support it with concrete.
These are some petroglyphs that were found on the rocks. These pictures were taken through our monocular.
A portion of the historic Route 66 went through the park. They had an old Studebaker marking the spot.
New meets old. Haha
We then crossed into New Mexico where there was some interesting scenery.
