Destination: South Dakota
We got off to a very chilly start this morning!
The hotel parking lot was basically and ice skating rink.
Once we let the car get warmed up a little we got back on the road. The roads were clear for the most part. Every once in a while there was a patch of ice but nothing problematic.
Sunrise
Some of the beautiful mountains along the way.
As we were driving, we saw a sign for a monument at the site of the Battle of Little Bighorn. We weren’t able to stop but I did try to snap a picture if the monument from the road.
We drove through the Crow reservation and the Northern Cheyenne reservation on this trip. This was on the roadside.
We saw tons of pronghorns, cows, horses, and deer along our route. We were also able to see a few bald eagles. This one scooped up a rodent on the roadside and I tried to get a picture of it but you can’t see what it’s carrying.
We made a little stop in Sturgis just to say that we had.
The sunset was again beautiful. Hard to capture how pretty it is while your driving down the road, but trust me it was gorgeous.
And of course since we were close to the South Dakota Naked Winery we had to stop there. When we stopped in September, they were out of their Blackberry wine and I wanted to see if I could try it this time. They had enough at the bar for a tasting and they had one unopened bottle which we took with us!
We called it a day and settled in for the evening. Tomorrow we will continue our road trip. We plan to stop and visit the Badlands National Park on the way.
