Long Weekend Adventure, Part 2
Today, we continued exploring the area. Our first stop was to Penobscot River Trails to go snowshoeing. It was such a nice facility. They have all the equipment available for you to use and there are lots of different trails. The lady at the office got us set up with some snowshoes and we set off on one of the trails. It was pretty, quiet, and peaceful. We only ran into one other couple who was cross country skiing.
We then headed north on Route 11 with our eyes peeled for any signs of moose. We made it all the way to the Canadian border where we saw the very beginning of US 1.
Here are some pictures from our drive. There were some beautiful views along the way. The condition of the road was mixed. Some parts were fine, some had potholes, and there were lots of frost heaves that made it feel like we were on a roller coaster.
Despite these many warning signs, we were not lucky enough to see any moose.
We did however see a bald eagle, deer, turkeys, an Amish horse and buggy, and someone who had a coyote hanging from a rope in their yard.
We attempted to find a place to see the Aurora Borealis tonight but the weather was not cooperating (too many clouds).
Our plans for tomorrow are being planned right now. We had to change our original plans because we found out that a lot of the roads are only accessible by snowmobile.
