To Vermont and Back

Today, we took advantage of the beautiful day by driving to Vermont to check out the Quechee Gorge (Grand Canyon of Vermont). We weren’t quite able to get the picture that they always show of the bridge but we did have a nice walk. We had to go back to the car to get our micro spikes once we realized the trail was covered in ice. Our first stop on the trail was the dam.

Then we continued along the trail right next to the river. With our spikes the ice covered trail was no problem.

We then walked across the bridge and got some pictures from the top.

On the way back home, we made a couple stops in New Hampshire. The first, was the site of what used to be the Old Man on the Mountain. We weren’t able to get to all of the viewpoints because of snow.

Our last stop of the day was the Flume Gorge.

There were parts of this trail that were closed for the season. Despite the closure, we had a very enjoyable hike with some beautiful scenery. It’s amazing how much snow was still on the ground.

The most fun part of this stop was finding a hill that was suitable for sliding down. The whole time we’ve been in Maine, I’ve wanted to slide down a snow hill on my belly like a penguin and today I got that chance. I first went down the hill on my butt a couple of times and then decided it was time to go down on my belly. It was awesome and so much fun! Scott was a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to stop before going over the edge the first time I went down.
