Doing Things a Little Different

Since all mass gatherings have been cancelled, people have had to get creative with events like graduation. Brunswick County held a drive by graduation celebration for one of the high schools here. A friend of mine had a daughter graduating so we joined her on the street to cheer for the senior class as they drove by. They also put a poster with each seniors picture on it down by the waterfront.

In other news… The largest ship to ever come into the port at Wilmington came through this week. There was a lot of hype and excitement in anticipation of the ship passing through Southport. I think maybe people needed something to focus on besides a virus and quarantine. The turnout at the waterfront amazed me. I knew there would be quite a few people out to watch but I had no idea there would be as many as there were. It almost looked like a 4th of July sized crowd. Luckily we rode our bikes because there was no parking for several blocks back from the waterfront.

The ship had assistance from a tug to make the sharp turn to head up the river. It was right at 1200 feet long.
Went to grab dinner afterwards and this was the line of traffic leaving town as I headed back. They had police directing traffic at the light to speed things up.
