Danielle’s Birthday Weekend.
Mikey and Danielle came down for the weekend for some fun kid free time. We spent the weekend celebrating Danielle’s birthday and even Scott’s too. They showed up Friday evening. We went to Mexican for dinner and in true Scott fashion, he showed his enthusiasm for my picture taking.
After dinner, we headed back, hoped on the golf cart, and headed out for a night on the town.
Our first stop was Southport Tap & Cellar. It was busy but luckily we were able to snag a table. We all enjoyed our beers, but we did not hang out for long because the bugs were terrible on the breeze free evening.
We left Tap & Cellar and went back home to get some bug spray to carry around with us just in case. Once we made it to American Fish, we ended up having to break out that bug spray. In was a nice night temperature wise, but without the breeze, the bugs were terrible. There was a great band performing while we were there. We enjoyed the music, drinks, conversation, and lots of laughs.
The band finished at American Fish so we closed our tabs and headed to the next stop. The next stop was the Tiki Tavern for karaoke night! It’s pretty much the only place in Southport open after 11pm. We had a good time. We played darts, the little ring game, we danced, and even attempted to sing karaoke. It was a good end to a fun evening.
We packed it up and got back on the golf cart to head home. Once we got home we started a fire and hung out in the backyard for a while.
Saturday morning we got up and out to hit up some yard sales on Oak Island. We had a few good finds. Once we were yard sale’d out, we went back home, took naps, showered, and got ready for our day in Wilmington touring the breweries. Our first stop was Edward Teach Brewery. Luckily we were able to find a parking spot super close. We left the car there and walked everywhere for the rest of the day. Mikey and I both enjoyed flights here. The beer that I anticipated would be my favorite (Teaches Peaches), was actually like number 3.
Next stop on our walking brewery tour was Flytrap Brewery. Mikey was the only one to have a flight here. I didn’t think it sounded like I would like 4 of them so I just picked one and had a glass.
We saw this little bar cart riding around town.
Our walk continued on. Next stop, Front Street Brewery. They also serve food which was part of the reason they were next. I was hungry! New Hanover county requires mask inside all businesses. Danielle and I were the only ones who had masks with us. They were able to give us some mask at Front Street so we could go inside, but we ended up enjoy our food and drinks at an outdoor table. It was right on the sidewalk so it made for some good people watching.
On to our next stop, New Anthem Brewery. No flights here. We just enjoyed a glass of our chosen beers. There was a couple that saw us at Flytrap and said “hey we saw you guys at Edward Teach”. We laughed and jokingly said. “Maybe we will see you around”. After we were seated at Front Street Brewery, that same couple showed up and actually got seated right next to us. We all laughed. While at New Anthem, you guessed it, they showed up there too. I thought it was funny. I was going to ask them to take their picture with us, but Scott stopped me and said that would be weird.
Our last stop on our Wilmington brewery tour was a place called Pour Taproom. It’s kind of a neat place. You just give them a credit card to hold and they give you a bracelet. They have a whole bunch of different taps with beers, wines, ciders, sours, etc. You try as much or as many as you’d like. Each tap tells you how much per ounce that particular beer costs and tells you how much you are pouring. When you’re all done you turn your wristband in and they tell you what your tab is.
We walked back to the car and made our way back to Southport. We all kind of rested/napped when we got home before heading to Fishy Fishy for dinner. There was an hour and a half wait when we got there so we walked next door to the Mullet Bar and had a drink while we waited. It was high tide and it looked like a pond in front of Fishy Fishy. We had to all get off on the passenger side of the golf cart and walk way around to get to the temporary bridge they put up to get people across the water without having to wade ankle deep.
After dinner, we headed back over to American Fish for a night cap.
Early Sunday morning we all got up and headed to Locals for breakfast.
Once home, Mikey and Danielle had little naps before they packed up and headed home. We had a fun weekend! Can’t wait until next time.
