Fort Myers Girl’s Trip
This weekend I flew to Fort Myers, Florida with 5 of my friends. We found nonstop flights from Wilmington to Fort Myers on a budget airline for $70. When I say budget, I mean BUDGET. We were allowed to bring one personal item for no additional charge. That meant we packed for the weekend super light since we could only have a backpack. Also, if you want any legroom you have to pay for the upgrade (which costs more than the entire round trip ticket). Luckily it was a short flight. While in Fort Myers, Lindsay’s parents were kind enough to let us stay in their beautiful home. Sadly, the cold front that was coming to NC was also going to visit FL so we didn’t have super warm weather.
Once we got settled, we went to dinner at a really cool Mexican restaurant. Bonus for the evening was that my friend Alicia (who I hadn’t seen since 2017) was able to join us. We had some great drinks and food and even a very interactive and loud birthday celebration for three of us that had birthdays this month. When we got back to the house, we made some drinks and hung out in the hot tub.
Friday, we took advantage of the nice weather and went to the Manatee Park. We were all very excited to see the gentle Sea Cows. After viewing them from a distance on the walkway, we decided to rent kayaks so that we could be closer to them. OMG, it was the best decision ever. There were lots of manatee and they were very active. They came right up to our kayaks and stuck around for awhile. Towards the end of our kayaking, a manatee got under the back of my kayak and lifted it out of the water. It startled me and I screamed like a girl. Once we were done hanging with the Manatee, we went to a touristy place called Sun Harvest. We sampled lots of citrus fruit and juices. We grabbed lunch and drinks at the poolside cabana in the country club where we were staying. In the evening we made our way to downtown Fort Myers. We hit up several bars and ended up at one where we could sing karaoke.
Saturday started kinda rainy and stayed pretty overcast. We took it easy. A few of us went for a nice long walk through the neighborhood. We went to lunch at the Shrimp Shack. It was a delicious meal. For the evening we decided to stay in with some oven pizzas and games.
We all had a great time. It was awesome to hang out with these ladies again and I can’t wait for our next adventure. It was great to get to see and hang out with my friend Alicia. It was difficult for me to pack that lightly but I did it. Hopefully onmodern next trip we will be able to have normal size luggage.
