Kind of a Big Dill
Today, I went with my friend Lecy to the Mount Olive Pickle Festival in Mount Olive, North Carolina. It was the 40th year for the festival and the 100th year for Mount Olive making pickles. I made us fun shirts to wear (which we were complimented on several times) and made a pair of pickle earrings for Lecy. There were a ton of people! Lots of vendors and lots of food/drink options. Every food/drink vendor had to have some kind of pickle option. Mount Olive was handing out free pickles! I did not feel compelled to try most of the pickle options from the vendors, like pickle lemonade, pickle cookies, or chocolate covered pickles, but we did try the dill pickle fudge. Surprisingly, it was not terrible. We watched the pickle eating competition where the contestants had 5 minutes to eat as many of the 20 pickles as they could. They were the great big pickles! The winner ate 11 pickles! We did not tour the After spending a couple of hours walking around the festival, we decided to have lunch outside of the festival to avoid some of the crowd and seek shade. I had so much fun hanging out with Lecy for the day.
