Adult Girl’s Weekend 2024
Mom and I drove to Myrtle Beach on Tuesday afternoon to pick up Melissa and Connie from the airport. We decided to spend the night. Mom got a little cat nap in before we picked them up. Once we got them, we went to the Boardwalk and had late dinner at Peaches Corner.
Wednesday morning we got up early and went on a banana boat ride and went parasailing. It was so much fun. The banana boat ride was more fun than I expected it to be. Aunt Connie did not enjoy the banana and said she would never do it again. After we were done, we went back to the hotel to shower and made our way to Brookgreen Gardens. It was beautiful! While there, we also took a pontoon boat ride through the waterways to see the rice fields. There was also a zoo that we saved for last but unfortunately, we did not pay attention that the zoo closed before the gardens. Melissa and I were able to see a few animals before security ran us off. Later in the evening we picked Megan up from the airport, had some dinner, and made our way to Southport.
Thursday morning mom, Melissa, and I went over to Oak Island to climb to the top of the Oak Island Lighthouse. We all made it up and back down without incident. When we were done, we went back to get Megan and Connie so that we could hang out on the beach for awhile since the weather forecast did not look so great for the weekend. In the evening, we went to Southport Tap and Cellar for trivia and a food truck. We did not win trivia sadly.
Friday when we woke up, it was raining. We decided to ride around to different thrift stores and try to make the most of the day. Danielle made it into town late morning and met us at one of the thrift shops. While we were thrifting, the sun came out so we decided to run back home and change and pack for the beach. It was very windy and we were be8ng sandblasted the whole time. Danielle dug us a heart shaped hole so I could get some cool pictures (an idea I saw on Pinterest). They turned out great. Then came the rain so we headed home. Megan had the idea for us to draw names and get ugly/funny shirts for the person and then we would exchange and have to wear them out one night. We did this on Friday. There were lots of laughs and several people commented on them. We went to dinner at Fishy Fishy. We tried to make it to Moore St Oyster Bar for a drink before the rain came but we were not successful. It began to pour on the way and there was a wait at MSOB so we did plan B and ran across to the Royal James for a drink. After our drink there and a gap in the rain, we headed to the Tiki Tavern. We enjoyed some drinks, dancing, and ping pong. Megan tried her hardest to get out of her shirt, turning it inside out, trading shirts with mom, trading with a random person in the bar, and turning it around backwards.
Saturday was a rainy day. We played some cards and other games. Later a few of us went back to the Tiki Tavern. We did not stay long. We came home to join Connie, Scott, and mom in playing games. Melissa, Megan, Danielle, and I had lunch at Loco Jo’s and mom and Connie had lobster rolls from a food truck.
On Sunday, Melissa and I drove Megan to the airport and mom and Danielle also left. When we got back home we watched some movies and hung out while, you guessed it, it rained.
Monday. Wow! See also the post about Potential Tropical something or another. Melissa and Connie were supposed to fly home this afternoon but Morher Nature had other plans. Over 13” of rain in 12 hours caused severe flooding and collapsing of roads and bridges. After getting their flights changed, we rode and walked around to see the effects of the storm. Once the weather cleared, we braved the roads and finally made it out to play pickleball. We had a lot of fun!
Tuesday we got up super early to get out on the roads and attempt to get them to the airport. Ultimately we made it and they both made it home safely.
Another girl’s weekend in the books! Never again will they be allowed to come back in September. Just kidding, but it will be highly discouraged! I. Sad that not everyone made it this year but super happy for the ones that did. I hope that we continue to try very hard to keep this new tradition going. Until next time…
